In just one day, our old church family was struck by a very unexpected death and a sweet friend lost a baby.
In that same week, a wise older woman shared her six year old grandson is dying. Another woman shared a coworker committed suicide.
My heart is breaking for my dear friends.
In times like these, where does our help come from? In times like these, when everywhere we look is death and destruction, where do we turn for peace and comfort? Where do we put our hope? Where do we put our trust?
Psalm 121
I will lift up my eyes to the hills-from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord is your keeper, the Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.
The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your going in, from this time forth, and even forevermore.
I love this psalm. It speaks straight to the heart of all of my questions. The Lord is our helper. He will not shelter us from trials and tribulations, but He promises that our foot will not be moved. He does not keep us from having to walk through deep, dark times, but He promises the sun and moon shall not strike us. And through all the rough waters, He shall preserve us. He is with us, always.
I'm praying for my dear friends in their time of need. I'm praying this psalm over them. I pray these words would be truth and life in their hearts.

ReplyDeleteMy heart has been greatly burdened for a number of friends and different situations as well; this is a wonderful Psalm to remind us where our Help and Hope comes from. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for your sweet friendship!
