Every perfect gift

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning ~James 1:17

This morning has started off well.

The sunrise was beautiful, the birds are chirping, and the radio promises a sunny, warm day.
Jaden slept in, so I was able to drink a warm cup of coffee and have a quiet time.  Derek got off to work ok.  Lunches are packed for our playdate later today.

With mornings like this, it's hard for me to remember that it is a gift from God.  Why is that?  Why is it so easy to blame God for horrible days, and take the credit for great days?

In my pridefullness (yep, struggling with pride already this morning!), the Lord spoke this verse in James to my heart. Every gift is from Him.  Every good gift and every perfect gift.  It has absolutely nothing to do with me, or how I act, or what I do.  It has no bearing on how I speak to my family, or what they do or say.  It is a gift from the Lord, because He loves me and wants to bless me.

I pray that I can meditate on this verse today.  I pray the Lord would keep this verse on my heart.  I want to remember that He is constant and unchanging.  His love never fails.  And all good and perfect things come from Him.

  1. Ahh, I love James, a lot of my favorite verses are in there! I love this one too!
I'm so glad that we had a good playdate today! Happy that the kiddos got along without too much intervention today, haha! It's always nice to have playmates for them, and adult conversations for me! Thank you!

  2. I love this, Trusty! You are dead-on in saying that it's easy to blame God for horrible days and take credit for the good days. I've worked really hard at thanking God for every good thing and every good day, but I still struggle with getting mad at him for the bad days, or simply ignoring the perspective he wants me to have on the day. Thanks for posting this! :)
